
Often as a executive coach I am asked the question, “How do I improve employee motivation?” or “How do I motivate this employee?”. In fact, it is really the wrong question, because your employees are motivated, but there are things in your business environment that have “demotivated them”. The reality is you cannot motivate anyone, but you can remove the obstacles or impediments that are interfering with their productivity and performance and their motivation. The truth is you as the leader have to find out what those things are that are demotivating your people remove them and your employees will give you all they have and more. The problem that hinders that advice from being taken? YOU may be the problem! Meaning you as the leader may need to change, and let’s be honest change is difficult.
